First Art Works

Place to go for inspiration

Most of my work is done at this park located on pleasant hill road. Ive had some sort of connection with this park since I was in middle school and it helps inspire alot of my work. Its very peaceful yet the noise from the traffic helps bring me back to reality. The combination gets ideas flowing and helps me find a place where I can get my thoughts down.

The Color of Mendhi

After mendhi dries and peels off, the hands are stained with the designs and begin to fade after several days. It takes about two weeks for the color to completely fade away.

Some quotes to get the mind thinking!

A. A. Milne:
One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries.

Abraham Maslow:
The key question isn’t "What fosters creativity?" But it is why in God’s name isn’t everyone creative? Where was the human potential lost? How was it crippled? I think therefore a good question might be not why do people create? But why do people not create or innovate? We have got to abandon that sense of amazement in the face of creativity, as if it were a miracle if anybody created anything.

Albert Einstein:
You can never solve a problem on the level on which it was created.

Albert Einstein:
Technological change is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal.

Albert Einstein:
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

Arthur Koestler:
Creativity is a type of learning process where the teacher and pupil are located in the same individual.

Beatrix Potter:
Thank goodness I was never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some of the originality.

Buckminster Fuller:
When I am working on a problem I never think about beauty. I only think about how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.

Buckminster Fuller:
There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly.

Carl Sagan:
It is the tension between creativity and skepticism that has produced the stunning and unexpected findings of science.

Carl Sagan:
If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe.

Edward de Bono:
It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.

Edwin Land:
Creativity is the sudden cessation of stupidity.

Erich Fromm:
Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties.

The end of the Reception

At the end of the reception, the sisters of the bride are suppose to steal the grooms shoes. In order for the groom to get his shoes back and leave with his new bride, he must give the sisters an amount of money that is acceptable to them. We asked for $700 but only got $250. This is a picture after we stole his shoes and one of my sisters got too excited and stole his socks as well. =)

Mendhi

Mendhi, or henna, is a paste made from leaves and herbs and used in islamic traditions as a symbol of happiness or luck. This past weekend my sister got married. An Islamic wedding lasts about 5 days, one of which are used to put mendhi on. There is also a myth that comes with mendhi on a wedding day: The darker the brides mendhi color, the more her husband loves her. I also put learned how to put mendhi on by looking at designs. I was never taught but I pick up on ideas and designs. Sometimes my mendhi isn't the traditional designs. I use a more arabic template.
